Welcome. This website was created to display the artwork of Jean Patricia Ritter. Since 1989, Jean has created thirty-three tapestries (or gros-point, to use the formal name) by stitching wool through a blank canvas. They are all original works of art, not stitches over someone else’s design. The thirty-third, and last, is now complete. You'll find it as Fun, Fable and Fantasy (number six) on the Gallery page. Simply telling people about these tapestries can not convey their meaning. As Jean’s third daughter, Dr Helen Ritter, put it: "No words can do justice to these incredibly beautiful works." So in 1996, a book containing photos of the first fourteen tapestries was published (Echoes of Childhood, Ritter Press. Perth, Australia). This website now enables people around the world to see photos of all thirty-three tapestries. To the left of your screen there are links to information about Jean, a thumbnail photo-gallery of the tapestries, and a 'guestbook' where you can leave a message. |
